Der Name 1. Liga regional ist denn auch etwas unpräzise, stammen die Gegner von Olympique Basel in diesem Jahr doch aus den Kantonen Fribourg und Bern, denn in der Nordwestschweiz gibt es schlichtweg keine anderen Futsalteams, die auf dieser Stufe aktiv sind. Es ist durchaus erstaunlich, dass ein Städtchen wie Bulle, das sechsmal weniger Einwohner hat als Basel, allein in der 1. Liga drei Teams stellt und dazu sowohl bei den Männern als auch bei den Frauen in der höchsten Liga vertreten ist, während die Stadt Basel seit Jahren nur Olympique hat. Second League und Women's Premier League fahren erst am 18. Januar fort mit ihrer Meisterschaft, den Spielern der 1. Liga regional gönnt man über Weihnachten hingegen nur 14 Tagen Pause, in der selbstredend keine Trainings möglich gewesen, da über die Ferien alle Hallen geschlossen sind. Dass gleich beide Torhüter kurzfristig absagen, hat mutmasslich aber nichts mit dem frühen Datum zu tun, sondern ist schlichtweg ein dummer Zufall. Also gilt es am Morgen des Spieltags noch schnell einen Goalie aufzutreiben, wobei man glücklicherweise einen alten Bekannten aus dem Hut zaubern kann, nämlich Sven Lehmann, der das OB-Gehäuse doch schon das eine oder andere Mal gehütet hat (77 mal, um genau zu sein), zuletzt aushilfsweise vor gut zwei Jahren, seine letzte volle Futsal-Saison liegt allerdings schon sechs Jahre zurück. Mit ihm und Patrick Hunziker, der aus der ersten Mannschaft aushilft, stehen an diesem Sonntagnachmittag somit zwei Spieler im Einsatz, die vor 17 (!) Jahren schon dabei gewesen sind, als das Abenteuer Futsal für Olympique Basel in der damaligen Nationalliga B seinen Anfang nahm. Gegen Portugal, das die ersten vier Saisonspiele ebenfalls verloren hat, scheint ein Sieg im Bereich des Möglichen. OB startet konzentriert und selbstbewusst in die Partie, man lässt den Ball gut laufen und sorgt immer wieder für Gefahr vor dem gegnerischen Tor. Der erste Treffer gelingt dann aber trotzdem dem Team aus Bern, das mit dem ersten Abschluss in Führung geht. Olympique reagiert postwendend mit dem Ausgleich.
